Serial Connection For Directplay Stronghold

There are four methods of playing 'Stronghold Crusader' by Firefly Studios with multiple players: by directly connecting computers together, by connecting computers. Only two players are able to play simultaneously with a modem or serial cable connection, and only four can play simultaneously with GameSpy Arcade.

For some reason 'Internet TCP/IP Connection For DirectPlay' displays my router's local '192.' Address and not the Cable modem's IP visible to the internet. In a spectacular coincidence, I haven't been able to successfully host an online game. The PC is on a DMZ through my router, ports controlled via Windows Firewall.
As far as I can tell, the firewall isn't blocking Crusader, and canyousee.org reports 'service visible' at TCP 47624 when attempting to host a game.Is it possible to get online multiplayer working through this feature? What are my options? You can VPN (I personally have had terrible luck with gameranger, but gameranger fans love it - so give it a try).I've noticed a lot of old games completely fail with hamachi installed on your system.
